Federation ShowMany members rise to the challenge of the annual Federation Show held each spring and March 2007 was no exception. The inter-institute competition gives the members the opportunity to participate in both team and individual categories whether they are a novice or more experienced in their chosen craft. Floral Art, Housewives/Handcrafts and Education sections ensure that a wide range of skills can be represented. There is even a section for the young ones, children and grandchildren of the members. This popular event attracts a great variety visitors to admire all the work on show and to sample the amazing homebaking. The Federation Show is also the time that the ladies donate crafts to be distributed to a local cause. This year the ladies made cot blankets for premature babies, baby clothes and drain bags for St John's Hospital in Livingston.

Institute EffortThe Institute effort encourages team work. Between four and six people may work together to produce a display according to the given specifications. In 2007 the given theme was Hallowe'en.
| Floral ArtOne of the challenges at the 2007 Show was to create a display depicting local industry past or present. Can you identify each industry? Another challenge was to make a corsage for a lady and a buttonhole for a gentleman. It's trickier than it sounds.

Novice TrayThe Novice Tray entry is another team effort. Novice members are the ladies that have not been awarded a first prize in previous Federation Shows. A craft popular in both the Novice section and the Main Show, depending on the skills asked for, is papercraft. This year members had to make three cards using three different papercraft skills. The cards had to be displayed on a cake board.
| EducationPhotography, Art, Computing and Papercraft are encouraged during the Education sections. Can you spot how the photographs depict movement?
